ten29twelve: {Head Shots}

We scheduled a quick session with this pretty lady for some professional head shots/graduation photos as she had just recently become a college grad. We don’t get to do a lot of head shots at ten7six (the business partner does A LOT of them at his day job), so it was a fun way to diversify our recent work a bit. We met at the performing arts complex and got down to it. Here is a look at just a few:

ten13twelve – {Not So Little Lady C}

We’ve photographed this gorgeous girl several times now. Once a year, in the fall, we meet up with her and her awesome mom and we have some fun. The session from this year is easily our favorite so far! C really let loose and we so enjoyed seeing the goofy side of her sweet temperament. Without further ado…

nine18twelve: {The Family T at Wash Park}

We are so far behind on our blogs. Holy cow! September, October and November all disappeared far too quickly! How does that happen?!

Annnnyway, now that we’re just about caught up with all of our work, we’ve got some time to go back and get our blogging legs underneath us once again. And who better to start with than this beautiful family? We met these fine folks at Wash Park on a lovely fall evening. This was their first set of family photos with their newest member – their littlest lady was adopted from China last October.

We were so struck by their story. This may sound trite, but they inspired us. They adopted their daughter knowing that she had a disability with her cleft palate and they had plans in place to fix it. But what they didn’t know until they met her (because the information was kept from them) was that she had an additional disability – she is deaf. Discovering this information didn’t disuade them in any way, shape or form. They brought their new baby girl home and started a fantastic journey as a family of five. They all began learning sign language immediately. We were shocked by how good the older kids had already become. They could communicate with their new sister very effectively. The entire family has given her the gift of communication in such a short time. It was so remarkable to watch them all…but they didn’t stop there. They also gave her cochlear implants. These were still very new when we met them and she was just starting to understand her hearing while still experiencing new sounds at every turn. A new sound happened while we were photographing – she heard an ice cream truck for the first time. We can say in all honesty that we will never forget that moment.

nine29twelve: Kat and Chris Got Hitched!

About a month ago, (HOLY CRAP, TIME GOES FAST), we were making our way down to Colorado Springs for a long-time friend’s wedding. We have known Kat for what has to pretty close to 10 years now. Corwin met her when he started school at the Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design in the early 2000’s and we’ve been close with her since. Even when she deserted us (and the rest of her CO family) and moved all over the southwest, we stayed in contact. So, over the summer, when we found out she and Chris were moving back AND they were going to get married approximately 10 seconds after they unpacked, we were thrilled. That excitement multiplied when Kat asked us to photograph her big day. We worked out a half photographers/half guests game plan and collected our gear and made the drive south.

Kat and Chris chose the eclectic Hillside Gardens for their wedding. This place is incredible and is seriously the epitome of the word eclectic. There is amazing, random EVERYWHERE (examples: A giant birdcage with an equally giant parrot in it, a ginormous head, old gas pumps, etc.). Corwin and I both want to go back just to take in and photograph the whole thing. These grounds combined with all of the personal details Kat and Chris included made for fun, bright, super-cool wedding. Let’s take a look:

nine22twelve: Family, Family, Family

Over the last few years, we have come to learn that some of our favorite subjects to photograph are families. Extended families are a freakin’ blast, so really, the bigger the better. It’s like a marathon of shooting happy, fun people. We just love it. These lovely folks are no exception. And the bonus is, we’ve photographed them before a few times, so we know them, they know us so there is no potential for “getting to know each other” awkwardness (even though we didn’t have it with any of these people from the start anyway…).

Tiffany and Dave were one of our first clients. We photographed the other half of their family right when ten7six got started. And then last year, we hung out with just Tiffany and Dave for a fun couples shoot (no, they’re not newlyweds, they just act like it still. They’re adorable). And then, Tiffany recommended us to her brother-in-law and sister-in-law and we were able to do some some Christmas-themed family photos for them last year right after they had had their littlest baby girl. All in all, I think we’re basically honorary family members now. At least, that’s how we feel.

Let’s see some photos then, eh? Here we go…

nine8twelve: Hanna and Megan Senior Portraits

I really believe I have some of the best looking people as my family members. It’s like our parents sold their souls so we could all be breathtakingly attractive. It’s almost not fair to other people. And as the generations continue on, it keeps getting better. And would you believe it if I told you that we’re all exceptionally intelligent, too? Unbelievable isn’t it?! Something else we’re all known for? Our humble nature. Ha! Or not…

OK, let’s move on, time to have a look at these two pretty girls who will be graduating this year. They also happen to be twins and my cousins.

seven14twelve: Shea and Dave’s Family Reunion Style Nuptials

Dave and Shea are Colorado transfers. She comes from Minnesota and him from Michigan. They also spent a good chunk of their lives together in New York. They have a close, eclectic (highly accented) group of people they call family and friends. And for their wedding, they wanted them all there. As many of us know, planning a wedding is tons of work. That work gets intensified when 90% of your guests are flying in from all over. So, to make things a little more fun and interesting, they decided to have a whole wedding weekend centered around family and friends. It was reunion style and it was executed perfectly. The invite package (designed by yours truly with lots of input from Shea) started it all off way back when. It included a guide-book; A Colorado how-to loaded with information about lodging, activities and wedding weekend itineraries.

A few things to  note:

1. There was really no wedding party. Each had someone stand up with them, Shea had her sister, Kala and Dave had his good friend, Eric and that was it. The rest of their guests were made to feel like a big part of it all.

2. These two are big time DIY’ers and nearly every aspect of their wedding was made by them. It was personalized to a ‘t.’

We arrived a bit early and got down to it. Abbi headed off to hang out with Shea and the ladies and Corwin photographed Dave and the guys.

six4twelve: Cousins!

This one has been done for a while, but I haven’t had time to write about it because life has been wildly busy. Oh, and by ‘I,’ I mean Corwin, aka The Business Partner. Guess I should clarify that since my posts on here are few and far between. Anyway, this session was the day after Donna and Mike’s wedding. The littlest guys’ mom called me right when we were winding down from the wedding hoping we could arrange something very quickly since the older two gentleman were hopping on a plane home to Louisiana the next night. We were able to make it happen and finish up just in time for the older two to head off to the airport. Let it be noted that it was very hot out. Even the big trees at City Park did very little to cool things off, but these guys maintained their composure and worked with me to get some great cousin shots. Way to go, gentleman!

six13twelve: Baby J!

This little lady belongs to a coworker of The Business Partner. She and I had been emailing back and forth for a while now trying to get this session set up. Things kept getting in the way forcing several reschedules, but we finally got it done. And I am so pleased with the result! Aren’t her eyes incredible? And her hair? And her sweet little face? So stinkin’ cute, right?! And her personality was just as bright and happy as could be. She was such a joy to photograph.

Our Very First Maternity Shoot!

My brother and his wife were kind enough to have a baby so that we would have a pregnant woman to photograph. Haha! Just kidding. That would be really weird. Really though, they are having a sweet little baby girl in August and we could not be more thrilled for them, for our girls (cousins are the greatest) and everyone else who will be lucky enough to be close to sweet Matilda. August can get here annnnnytime.

A few weeks back, we met at their house for dinner and then started photos in the super cute nursery and eventually made our way to a beautiful park near where they live. The light was alive. Our subjects were glowing. The whole night was amazing.
